Pastors Message
On Sunday April 27, Redeemer took a historic step forward. With inspired prayerful, and diligent work by
our Congregational Council, a proposal for a 5-7 year Capital Improvement Plan was presented. This event
is historic because it gives us a plan to work toward going forward.
Many times, when ideas are discussed, no plan is ever made for how to achieve the ideas. The reality is
that this plan still has much work to be done. Also, it needs to be refined and broken down into manageable
pieces for future capital campaigns needed to fund the work. The council, with input from the congregation
and led by a special team designated to accomplish these tasks, will do this work. It will be exciting to
see how the plans come together. If you missed the meeting on April 27, paper copies, as well as electronic
versions of the plan are available. Just ask a council member for a copy. If you are interested in serving
in any way on this team, please a council member or me know.
The best part of this capital plan is its’ focus on how we can improve on what we already have here at
Redeemer. We have a very strong base to begin our work. Many older churches have to deal with steps and
multiple levels, for example. The cost for lifts to make these spaces more accessible is quite expensive.
That is money spent before any additional work can be done! We are blessed with a great physical plant.
As we work to improve upon it, the focus is not on making our “club” look better for ourselves.
The plan’s focus is on what we need to do to continue to give God the honor and the glory in what is
going on here. Additionally, we are focusing on future needs and how we can reach other with the Good
News of God’s love in Jesus Christ with items such as parking lot expansion and extensive storage in the education wing’s classrooms.
Everything we do as Christians is outreach in God’s name (otherwise known as evangelism!). How we
maintain and improve our facility tells the community a great deal about what is going on here on our corner of Hickory and Dean!
